Preamble of Our Mission-Make A Difference!

There are great academic and behavioral challenges when an organization such as Bethel Academy specializes in behavior modification of troubled at risk teens. Conditions such as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and others make learning much more difficult. Often these conditions largely contribute to the downward spiral of the life of a teen boy. Often these children are expelled, suspended, put into detention or denied extra curricular privileges. All this tends to make the problem worse instead of better. Sometimes the only answer public schools in particular have for problem teens is to expel them. Academic failure only tends to reinforce a life of ongoing failing and ultimate failure. If the teen is expelled from a public or private day school, what can a frustrated parent do?   As part of our Academics Mission Statement, we want to be very clear that we are 100% committed to helping your boy. We have many years of experience dealing with troubled teens. We use state of the art training materials from Accelerated Christian Education then add basically a lifetime of experience dealing with these difficult cases. As you review our mission statement, please keep in mind this is NOT just a mechanical thing with us at Bethel.   Yes, we do all the right things to give your teen a great education while he is with us at Bethel. But more than that we utilize our full service program, Academic, Discipline and Spiritual to change the WHOLE person We can help your boy. That is what we do!

School Curriculum

For many years Bethel has been committed to the internationally acclaimed Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) curriculum.

Instructional Methods

This is an individualized educational approach. It is designed to place each student in each subject on the level where the student can learn best and progress. Teachers, called supervisors, help students set and achieve realistic goals on a daily basis. Students can progress faster in subjects in which they are more capable and slower in subjects in which they have difficulty

Instructional Materials

Each course is written in a booklet form. Each Booklet is called a PACE. A one year course consists of twelve PACEs. A semester course consists of six PACEs. On the high school level, credit is assigned as either one Carnegie unit or one half Carnegie unit. The number of Carnegie units earned by a high school student in specific subjects determines graduation eligibility under State and (ACE) guidelines.   Bethel offers all the subjects in ACE "School of Tomorrow" curriculum. These include the four basic subject areas of Math, Science, English and Social Studies.   Because the School of Tomorrow is a distinctly Christian school, all PACEs teach the Christian world view. Students graduating from Bethel Academy must take two courses in Bible. These courses are selected from New Testament Survey, Old Testament Survey, or the Life of Christ. Additionally, whatever courses required to meet State graduation guidelines are required as well.

High School Graduation Requirements

Every attempt is made to assure Academic excellence, however Bethel Academy cannot guarantee that any student will meet the graduation requirements.

Mississippi Graduation Requirements

All courses required for graduation in the State of Mississippi are provided here at Bethel Academy.

Diplomas

Additionally, Bethel Academy offers three diploma paths. They are:
College Preparatory
General Education
Vocational
The School of Tomorrow College Preparatory Diploma requirements exceed State requirements as well as preparing the students for the ACT and SAT   examinations.

GED Preparation

The staff at Bethel Academy will assist any student to prepare for the General Equivalency Diploma exam through a program provided by the George County campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Graduation Under the Guidelines of Another State

Parents who desire that their boy graduate under the guidelines of another state should provide the Principal at Bethel with a current copy of his transcript as well as the official state information on Graduation requirements.

Quality Control

By strict adherence to the ACE School of Tomorrow procedures, Bethel Teacher/Supervisors insure that compliant students will achieve academic goals recognized by other secondary as well as post secondary schools.   The minimum level of achievement in any academic subject is 80% mastery. Students cannot advance in any subject without this level of achievement.   Students in high school at Bethel earn credits based on the four point system. However, Bethel standards are higher than those in the local public schools. Therefore students who have met the daily academic requirements at Bethel will have higher averages than most of them have ever had in their other school experience.
